Warm-growing masdevallia?
I live on the west coast of Florida and it gets very hot here. Are there any masdevallias that tolerate heat? I don't really keep any of my plants inside, they're all outside on the lanai, some in full sun (20% percent shade through screening) and some in different variations of shade. There's really no place to put plants inside near a window for sun. I love the look of the blooms and would love to get one but from what I understand, they like colder weather, correct?

There are those that are said to be warm tolerant, but Im not sure how tolerant they are. They might only tolerate up to 80 degrees.
One example is M. rolfiana. You can find that one here: http://www.andysorchids.com/buildsearch.asp |
there alot of hybrids that like warm weather. i know the species masd. floribunda like warm weather

Thanks! I'll have to check further into it. I didn't want to waste time looking at them knowing I couldn't have one, but now...

Here is another one, Masd. infracia , not flashy, but not picky about Temps . I did grow and bloom it in the house with Phal. seedlings . It is in the green house now . Gin :)

I have a floribunda flourishing in my greenhouse in south Georgia, though it is right in front of the swamp cooler. Still, it gets to over 90 before it kicks on.

oooh, I forgot. the redwing hybrid does well in warmer weather too. you can get it from carter and holmes.
