first neo spike EVER!
 

im so excited! today i found my very first neo spike EVER :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: im soo excited!

i got this neo. falcata 'setsuzan' last july and it was a 1 growth plant, but had previously bloomed. it got 2 tiny nubbins last september, but both just stopped growing. eventually one started up again and ended up being another fan, while the other one still slept. they both looked exactly the same, so i just assumed that i would be a fan to, if it ever decided to move. well i heard that neos can be tricky, so i wasnt really expecting to get any flowers. so i just put it with the rest of the plant and watered it. nothing special.

well today when i was watering, i noticed that the tip of one leaf was sitting in a puddle or something, so the tip got cut off. it wasnt until after i put the plant back that i noticed the spike. i cant beieve it took me so long. the spike is already about 1" long! :biggrin: :lol:

there are 6-7 tiny buds so far!

me too! anyone know what the time frame is? maybe blooms in a month? two months?

on second thought, i definitely over estimated. the spike is only 2cm!

thanks!! should i bring it inside, for any reason, just to keep the buds safe? i havent had history of buds getting eaten, but white flowers may get bumped, idk!

Neofinetia falcata usually blooms in the fall.

Congrats on the spike!! I never had a chance to see any of mine bloom in the 2 years that I had them. Then I lost them. Think I'll have to get some more soon.

Congrats on the spike! I know the feeling, after several years of struggle I too was awarded with my first spike/rebloom this year on my Neo's. A few of my neo's are in bloom now, so if they are supposed to flower in the fall, hopefully that means I will get to enjoy more blooms on the ones that haven't flowered yet for me!

Did you get you plant during the show at Stauffers? I picked up a 'Setsuzan' and 'Yagiri' there that are looking pretty promising.

i know! thats why its so exciting! because i havent even had the plant for a whole year. and i always hear people saying it took them 2 years before they got it right :D im tickled pink!

jim- yes and no. i got it as Asiatica asian wholesale. they went out of business in july '10. so i went when they had their clearance days. it only cost me $12!! they had an 'iyo nishiki' that i wanted to get, the leaves were amazing, but it was $30. looking back, i shouldve gotten it, it was a pretty large plant.

the plants you got, originally came from asiatica. the person who had them, wen to asiatica the last day they were open, and bought ALL of their neos and cyms. lol. and they were trying to get rid of them at the stauffers show. thats where you come in. haha. how much did you pay for yours?
