Snappers

These two snappers come up every evening to dine on catfish food. I've never seen them make a move to eat one of the fish, maybe they're too full?

they can actually reach the back of thier tail with there head so dont try to pick them up that way. those are big enough to do some serious harm or make good soup

I rescued one (again in the middle of the road:shock: ) and since I was from California, & was in Connecticut, I didn't know it was a snapping turtle 'til it snapped! I almost wet myself!:blushing: That would've been worse, as I was working @ the time!!

Same thing happened to me! I'm originally from the suburbs of Detroit but my family moved to Northern Michigan when I was in my teens. We lived in the middle of the country and one day when I was coming home from work (at the local pet store mind you!) there was a HUGE turtle in the middle of the road. With the tail it stretched across more than one lane! I got out to coax it across and almost peed my pants too! Went screaming back to my car shaking the rest of the way home.... :blushing:

Sarah

Snappers are not known for their gentle disposition. But hey, they've been around since the age of dinosaurs virtually unchanged so "bad attitude" must work for them. LOL

With snappers you're a little better off getting them to snap down on a broom handle or thick sturdy stick to occupy the business end. Moving one of them is not an easy one person job. Even the babies will bite.
