overgrown epidendrum

I recently received an epidendrum radicans (orange) that is in a huge pot and must weigh over 100 lbs. It is severely root bound and definitely needs to be divided. Will the plant kill itself if not repotted or will it just continue to grow and bloom. It's supposedly been fine the last 8 years but it seems like the plant would strangle itself. Thanks for any responses

The Epi radicans that I have seen sends out loads of roots & keikis. The plant looks like it is too big for the pot, but it continues to grow madly.

I would love to see a pic of your plant. It sounds beautiful.

I don't think it will "kill itself". But if you want to divide it into smaller more manageable sized plants, it won't hurt either.

Each division should ideally be no fewer than 5 canes if you choose to divide the plant (some people say no less than 3 canes, but the more canes per division, the greater the chance of obtaining a division with a substantial amount of roots, which means a faster recovery).
