Question- Please advise
 

It has been raining for days and looks to do so for several more days. I am so worried about my 3 new chids. They all have spikes which are still developing or about to open. See post "3 new chids" which I have updated with progress pics.Sharry Baby is great with 4 more spikes to go! Anyway, I brought them inside and put them under lights. The curly ones that screw into lamps. I have 3 on them. Now I'm doubting myself. Should I have just left them alone? There's not a ray of sun to be seen outside. I am worring myself to death about the spikes and no light. I can't get out my big lights for porch because my back is out still. Is moving them gonna hurt them. (from porch to house) PLEASE let me know what you think. Sharry Baby MUST open remaining 4 spikes! I am in love with her. Will leave inside till I get response. Anxiously waiting. I think you did the right thing. Not enough light is better than rot.;)

Where are you located Gladys? Is it cool or warm right now? Too much wet and no dry is bad, but make sure yu haven't taken them from warm to A/C. If so, dry them out with a fan. Light is good.

Gladys, sometimes we need to supplement the light. The compact forescents you describe might just do the trick to keep these puppies doing their thing. For instance here is my setup

Yes, that is sorta what I did. Same theory anyway. The A/C was on but with it being so damp and cool out it wasn't running real cool inside. Close to same temp I guess is what I'm trying to say. A/C was only necessary to take stuffiness out of air. I had fans running also.This has been the strangest spring/summer I remember for a long time. My porch which usually has sun on one of 3 sides at all times and bright light all over all day was like being in a room at dusk with no light on nearly all day! That's what had me so concerned. Alas, the sun is out and orchids are basking in it fight now. Hope it last for at least a few hours! I am sooo sick of rain and gloom. Not to mention it sure takes a toll on my back. You should be fine with the like set up of Ross. Keep the fan's running for good air circulation as well as to help dry out the medium. Oncidium's will get a fungus in the medium if left to damp for a long period of time. Been there done that and got the T-shirt:evil: The humidity level should not be an issue if your a/c is used to resolve stuffy issues. If used throughout, a fine mist in the a.m. will be sufficient.

Basking is good, just make sure you use UV45 on those arms and legs:evil: not to mention a dry spell will do a back wonders.:nod:
