Book for growing minitures

Has anyone read this particular book by Rebecca Tyson Northern >> Miniature Orchids and How to Grow Them. My growing area is in need of a size change and minitures is a sure way to go

I own this and have read it from cover to cover. My only complaint is it doesn't seem to cover any of the minis I have (or rarely). Good book and good info though :)

Thanks Ross, exactly what I am looking for, need to make a growing area change...slow process but workable. I know Rebecca Northern's other books come highly recommended. :bananaslide:

Steven Frowine has a book on miniatures due out some time this year. I have it on order, it was supposed to be out July 1, but it's been delayed :_(

I have a copy of this that my grandmother owned many years ago. I don't know if she grew orchids, but the book is interesting reading. Of course, it's impossible to put every miniature orchid in one book!

Well, that's the thing, not impossible, just improbable  . I agree that everything can't be covered. It's just that there are lots of 'chids discussed here that are not covered in Rebecca's book, so what is the cutoff point? How did she decide which ones made the cut? :scratchhead:

I like this book a lot but I don't think it's the best book on culture - the bulk of the book contains descriptions of individual plants but there is very little cultural information included with the descriptions. Things like seasonal temperatures and growth cycles for each species would be very nice in a book like this, but as with most horticultural orchid guides they aren't to be found. There is an introductory section but it doesn't really contain anything you can't find in other books or online.

I think her other well known book, the aging but excellent Home Orchid Growing, is much better as a cultural reference. It's more comprehensive and the general principals it illustrates apply to miniatures as much as regular orchids.

I'm also looking forward to the Frowine book. According to the press blurb, it will contain information on individual plants' habitat and growth habit, seasonal variations in temperature, water and light, as well as cultural history and tips for success.

This is so weird! I was just searching for miniature orchids books yesterday. I scoured the Internet. I saw this book listed and the one that is due out later this year. I signed up to be notified of the one that is coming out. It now says it will be released some time in October. :( I'm very interested in the minis. They look so sweet!
