Why do females always do all the work?
 

I saw this mating pair of toads back in March and they made me laugh - she was obviously trying to get to somewhere safe and he, totally oblivious, was clinging onto his mate :D I made sure they got off the road before leaving them to go find a suitable place to mate

Maybe he was just tired and catching a ride???

They sometimes call that "mate guarding". He stays on her back as long as possible so no other male can hitch a ride.
