Lichen blooming?
took these last summer. it's the top of a really old cut-off telephone pole near my house.

British soldier lichen??? Look it up and see if that matches. Not blooms as lichens are not flowering plants. Actually, and you probably already know, they are fungus with algae living symbiotically in them.

Really cool, aren't they? We came across slime mold in the forest in December, that looks like clumps of frosty snow. It had us puzzled when we first saw it, because we don't get much snow here, and there wasn't any around.
