Tillandsia Ionantha blooming today
i was waiting for the third flower to open.
2nd bloom on this multi-pup clump this month :) http://i.ugtz.com/albums/Blooms/till_bloom2.sized.jpg http://i.ugtz.com/albums/Blooms/till_bloom1.sized.jpg |
This is a gorgeous species. Mine has about 5 pups that have not bloomed, and 3-4 that have bloomed before. I wonder whats keeping mine from blooming?? Although I think I was keeping them a little too dry last couple of months.
By the way, these photograph amazingly when wet in those colours. |
good idea! I will take more photos after misting.
my experience has been that they don't bloom unless the light is high enough. I grow mine lower down in the tank until they reach blooming size, and then move them up to almost touching the light fixture to bloom them before moving them back down. Mine blooms at 2000fc (CF) but won't bloom at say 1200. |
That could be too, but I have not moved them from the spot where they would bloom every 6 months. It could be that my ligth bulbs are old and dim.

could be.
you've reached the end of my 'expertise' on the subject :) |

Once again - beautiful! Mine will not bloom until the summer, but it is always a feast for the eyes. Thanks for posting
