when to start watering Encyclia Adenocaula

It's a frustrating plant. Only got it to bloom once in 3 years. It does have a nub of a spike starting. Wait to water or start now? There isn't any new pseudobulb growth yet.

You could probalby water it once. I would water depending on how much the bulbs have have shriveled. I water mine about twice this year.

I only begin watering mine when I see new roots. Other than that, I keep it bone dry but I do keep the RH high.

Your growing conditions are probably different then mine.
I'm at 5300 feet near lake chapala in Mexico. The plant is a native species here and I grow my two plants on mounts. Watered everyday of the year in the morning, grown outdoors in very bright covered light (slightly less then for catts but I bloom laelia anceps beside them.
The right hand plant is just coming into bloom the other has been in bloom for 10 days.
Next to the left hand encyclia is a cuitlauzina pendula just coming into bloom.

I'm assuming there is a big difference between growing these in pots or mounted. Mine is in a pot and I'm not sure if that is the ideal solution but I to keep in dry during winter.

after seeing that picture.... I just have to say..I'm jealous

I bought the plants as mounts. Prefer pots myself and all my catts, phals, hardcane and softcane dens
plus about a dozen more species are all in pots.
You can see what the daily watering is doing to my stucco wall.

The mounts I have are outside in a very dry climate until the rains start(mid June-Oct)then everything turns very dry again. Not much casual rain. I'm close to a very large lake so the humidity may be as much as 30% in dry season. I try to keep my catt house above 50% and the plants bloom well in the dry season.

Hi -- Just came across this post. Ours is now blooming with about 50+ flowers on it. We grow it in bright-very high light and it gets watered every few days with the other encyclias. I have never given it a deliberate rest period. If that helps...
