Frangipani/Plumeria

Grows cold down to freezing, I keep it under a solid roof and dry during winter.

This is a bulb that someone in the forum has asked me about previously (it was in the background of one of my orchid photos). The bulbs in the ground are tiny compared to other types of bulbs, the leaves are only a couple of feet high right now but I have seen the leaves get to 5 feet before I had to chop them all down. The flowering is lovely but the plants I feel are invasive. Does anyone know what it is?

This is special for me, this common frog was in the bromeliads under the bench and it jumped onto the side of the pot. I was surprised to see it there and it's the first time I've had a frog amongst the orchids that i know of. So things must be reasonably healthy if there's a frog around........

That orange bulb looks like a Watsonia to me, or more likely a Crocosmia (sorry, took coffee to wake my brain up!).

I'm almost 100% certain the bulbs are Montbretia. I have this in my garden and it looks identical.

They are pretty small bulbs and (at least in my climate) die back each year. Mine are only just poking up above the ground again now, they will bloom in a couple of months.

I only put a small number of the small bulbs in the ground and the patch has spread lots. My MIL gave me the bulbs and said that once you have them they will just keep comeing up and spread and that if I wanted to get rid fo them I would have trouble as it's so easy to miss one or two of the bulbs in the ground. (Matches your description of invasive).

They are usually orange flowers like yours and the height of the leaves sounds about right to me. There is also a red form known as Montbretia 'Lucifer' which is taller with red flowers. However this reverts back to the orange form in seeds. The 'Lucifer' can only be reproduced by dividing the clump.

I've just read somewhere that Monbretia is the british name and it's know as Crocosmia elsewhere in the world, which matches with one of Discus's suggestions.

Just re-read that you said yours gets a lot taller. I still think it's the Montbrecia/Crocosmia. Probably a different variety to the common one here in the UK. The 'Lucifer' could certainly get that tall so there are obviously genes for that sort of height.
