A beautiful Brazilian - Laelia tenebrosa
http://img485.imageshack.us/img485/5...saresizyt1.jpg
Initially described by Robert Allen Rolfe (1889) as being Laelia grandis Var. tenebrosa, in 1893 he must admitting that it was in fact a new variety considering which it did not have the petals twisted like Laelia grandis and that the distribution area in Brazil was different. One meets Laelia tenebrosa in the north of Rio de Janeiro in the state of Esperito Santo where it grows on the large trees of the relatively dense forests. It is a plant with has a very vigorous growing , on the plant which I have I can already see the new growth which currently measures 1" and which prepare the 2008 flowering. |

The natural setting in the picture of a great flower is a joy to behold! Thanks so much for sharing it and the information. I enjoyed the view and the read!

That's beautiful...it's another from my wish-list :D

This is one I've always admired. I tried growing it but I suspect that my conditions weren't quite warm enough as the plant just never grew.
Well done for growing such a beautiful plant. |
Congrats Intruder!
The flowering season is perfectly reversed, 'cause in Brazil L. tenebrosa blooms in the end of spring and in the beggining of summer, the Christmas Time in southern hemisphere! We say here "there are chocolate flowers to Christmas", when tenebrosa blooms exactly in dec-25! Unfortunately we need to cut the flowers to decorate home, the plant is enormous! |
Wow! Ummm ... Wow!
