Seedling Care
I have a few questions about orchid seedlings that I have been wanting to ask, but never got around from it. I have a few cattleya orchid seedlings that I got really cheap at Lowe's. I repotted them into a 2" pot and they have a few new roots. However, the root tips are very small and the plant seems it is too dry. How do you grow these?
Also, if I ever got seedlings that were still in flask, how would I grow those? |
I can't help with the flask question as I haven't been brave enough to try it.
Normally seedlings require more moisture, I water mine a bit more often than my larger plants. Joann |
re: the flasked orchids, exact care depends on the species/hybrid, but generally, when you think they're big enough or appear to have used all the nutrients in the flask, you take the plantlets out of the flask, wash all the gel medium off and pot it in your choice of medium - usually something that's pretty moist like sphagnum; it's generally a good idea to keep them in a high humidity environment like a propagator or similar. Here are my first two attempts: Orchids on a Balcony: flask
There are loads of pages on the internet about it, if you google. |
