Hi all! I recently purchased an orchid from a reputable grower at the Philadelphia flower show. I was told the orchid is a Cattleya, however the tag in the pot says this:
PYP. KALIHI (KRAMERIANA X PAPILIO) Is this really a Cattleya?

I was also told that the plant flowers ALL year long! The man who sold it to me said that the flower will drop, and another should immediately follow. After I brought the plant home, the flower started to dry up and wilt. A few days later it fell off completely. I'm wondering how long I should expect before another begins to show up? I'm not sure if it experienced negative effects from the environment change, or if it's just the normal cycle for this plant. I only have one picture right now, but I can post more later if needed.

Any help is appreciated!!!

You have Psychopsis Kalihi. Maybe you misunderstood the grower and he said Cattleya conditions?

He didn't really specify....he gave me the Cattleya facts sheet though. Does that make sense? Should I be following those conditions?

Yes your description of the plant and the name you posted means that it is a Psychopsis. Psychopsis are great orchids because like he said they are almost always in bloom and their flowers are stunning! Just follow the basic instructions he gave you and read up on the plant know that you know what it is. You wont be dissapointed!

(We would love to see you photo though too!)

Thank you! I've been trying to upload the photo, but it's not working!! I'll keep trying!

That is not a Cattleya. Definately looks more like a Psychopsis to me, but I don't know much about that sort of orchid.
