Rhyncholaelia Digbyana in Sheath
5 Attachment(s)
I got this big guy today. It is a division of a big plant from a friend. It has 4 mature growths, a new growth and a new start. The new growth is in sheath; You can see it if you pry the leaf open just a little bit. I hope that this plant blooms soon because I have never seen one of these bloom in person. I believe that it will be a few more months before you and I get to see this bloom, but it will definately be worth the wait. I will definately post pictures when it does. Here are pictures of my new baby.

Looking good! Isn't it amazing how it can have a sheath and the leaf isn't even developed! Will look forward to pictures of the blooms.

The woman I bought this plant off of said that all rhyncholaelia digbyana have sheaths even when they are still forming. That is amazing. That also means that this plant will only flower with each new growth.

I can't wait until it blooms, but I know that it will be a little while before anything happens. I when I repotted it I was planning on putting it back in a 4 inch pot since there weren't many roots on the top of the media, but down inside there were tons of roots. I didn't have any 5 inch pots, so I went to 3 different stores looking for one and finally found one. I potted it up and watered it with worm tea. Now all I have to wait.

Hi - I also have this division and when it blooms it will be light green with a frilly lip. I has a great fragrance and is generally very healthy. It blooms every year. Last year, my original plant fell on the floor from a bad storm and broke apart. Now I have 2, 1 large (in spike) and 1 smaller (in spike). Can't wait for them to bloom. very easy to take care of. They like lots of fertilizer and I also use Super Thrive 1x month.
