Dendrobium cuthbertsonii - a closer look

These are two of the Den. cuthbertsonii I got from Golden Gate Orchids. I haven't gotten tired of looking at them!

I knew that this Den was small, but I didn't realize how small. Your fingers look gigantic!!
This is a cool grower, right?

Cool grower. They'll do well Intermediate so long as they never ever ever dry out.
I really like getting a full plant shot with my hand in it for scale - hard to tell what the thing looks like, otherwise... Thank you for noticing!

Hmmm, sounds like I might just be able to grow one then. It's worth a try anyway!

Having your fingers in there for scale is a good idea, it's o hard to get an idea of the size of plants when they're alone against a plain background. For instance, I imagined this one nearly 2 times larger than it actually is.

2" clay pot. They should be good in these pots for a few years.

I agree that the perspective helps. I always thought this was a much larger plant also. Now, thank you very much, I have to have some.

Beautiful photos, Duane! The edge of the lip on the pink one looks like little flames...very pretty! :D One of these days I'll work up the courage to try this species.

My friend Leo in Illinois says that he grew one in Intermediate conditions in a basement for about thirteen years, and was quite successful with it. For him, the secret was constant moisture.

Thanks, Nat! I hope you are successful with it. There's a nice hybrid - Den. Illusion (lawesii x cuthbertsonii) that is supposedly easier to grow. It's a little larger, but still a very manageable plant. Mountain Orchids sometimes has one.

I love this plant!
