Aerangis punctata ... where to find ??
This is one Aerangis I just don't see anywhere....
There are only 2 that I've been looking for and don't seem them for sale anywhere... Aerangis punctata and Aerangis distincta.... If anyone knows of anyone who has for sale or can direct me to a vendor who has them, please let me know. Thanks. |
A. distincta is pretty much impossible to find in the US, I know that Calvin (he's big on Angracoids) has looked high and low for it.
For A.punctata I had a look around at the US vendors I know of from past OB projects, and I can't find it either. Funny, because this one is extremely common and easy to find in Europe. Hopefully someone else will have some ideas. |
Try calling Botanica Limted here is a link to their website: Botanica Ltd. - orchids are our specialty. I thought I had seen A. punctata for sale on their website previously but it is not listed now. If you called them they may having something available that is not listed on their website or they might be able to help point you in the right direction. Also have you tried ebay? I just found A. disctincta on ebay: AERANGIS DISTINCTA SPECIES FRAGRANT ORCHID - eBay (item 300526936275 end time Feb-22-11 19:47:29 PST).
Hope this helps! |
Just found A. punctata for sale: Orchid Web: Aerangis punctata

Hi -
Sorry, No, Aer. punctata is not currently on the website of Orchids Limited, and I've already checked Botanica Ltd. and they don't have it either ... Yes, I did see Aer. distincta on ebay ........ Thanks to all of you. |
A. punctata is showing available on the link I provded. $40.00 for a mounted one, is that not what you are seeing when you click on the link?
Edit: disregard that, when you click on add to cart it pops up unavailable. Rats! |
Every once in a while A. punctata shows up on ebay so maybe put a search on ebay where it will notify you daily if one is listed.
Good Luck! |
Hey Becca, thanks for doing so much leg work for me. That was very kind of you ...
My heart skipped a beat when you emailed me the Link, Drats! I thought for sure Botanica ltd. would have had it ! Double Drats !! |
Neo- Good luck finding the punctata. I've been looking for two years and no luck. Botanica does list it in their select offerings section but it's a bit pricy. Also, Andy's has distincta. I just got my order from them on Friday. I got distincta and arachnopus. Neither are listed on his site, but give him a call. I thought it was priced very fairly for such a hard to find plants as well.

You gals beat me to it! The vendor selling on ebay is legitimate and I got 2 distinctas from him a while back. One has bloomed already . Definitely go for it (and the price is right too).
It's funny with these angraecoids; the come in waves, and then disappear off the market. I suppose it's a matter of low demand, as well as the difficulty in propagating these monopodials (no one is really doing any stem-props on these guys). A flask will appear, flood the market for a period, and then the plant is gone. Several years ago, punctata was everywhere, and now it's nearly impossible to find. Distincta, on the other hand, was no where to be seen; now I see several European vendors carrying it, and it's only a matter of time before they find their way to N. America Call Botanica - I know they have a magnificent multi-floral punctata clone, and they were selling divisions of it just recently (at an arm and a leg though). If you're really desperate, Troy Meyers has it in the process of being reflasked. Otherwise, I don't know of any other nurseries that have it. Keep an eye out though - you never know when it might appear. |
