Orchid Noob in Grahamstown, South Africa.
Hi all,
I've long had a fascination with orchids, and have started growing quite a few; this has recently exploded to a small collection of 50-odd plants crammed into our enclosed balcony. You can follow the adventures, ups and downs and related ramblings online at: Orchids on a Balcony. It also has a list of all my plants, if you're interested, and of course pictures. All the pics uploaded to the blog can be viewed at Orchid Pictures. I'm a rank neophyte when it comes to orchids, so I'm learning a lot, fast. I've recently joined the local orchid society (EPOS) and ordered a bunch more books for my library :) So hi :) |
Welcome to Orchid Board :welcome:
|
Thanks Rosie :)

Discus -> Welcome to the Orchid Board! :) I just got back from South Africa myself.. You have a beautiful country! :D
|
WOW, sounds like your addiction really took off! Good for you!
Welcome to the OB! Everyone here is exceptionally kind and willing to share their thoughts and experiences with everyone else. I'm sure you'll find this place a valuable resource as I have! |
Thanks for the warm welcome guys :)
PinkCloud - I kind of "adopted" South Africa after a somewhat itinerant youth. :) Lots of opportunities to do things I love here, fantastic scenery, interesting flora and fauna. Moved here to do a postgrad degree in 2000 after numerous holiday trips before that and haven't left :) Paul - indeed. I keep seeing things on the Internet and going "oooh... If I move this plant over here and that one there, maybe I can squeeze it in..." Plant lists from growers are lethal. Good things most of them aren't illustrated! :D |
LOL.... Discus, that's about the truth of it. In our minds, there is always room for just one more (or two, or three, or four, or five, or six, ad nauseum).
|
aww... Lucky you! hmm.. maybe I should look up some university's there.. :D
|
PinkCloud There are some pretty good universities down here, depending on your interests :)
Paul Mc - In our minds, certainly. Significant others sometimes take on a pained "look, just see if you can grow and flower these ones first!" look. When you start looking at furniture wondering if you really need it, there might be a problem :] |
Welcome Discus! :waving
For a "rank neophyte", as you call yourself, you sure have an awesome collection! I read part of your blog, and enjoyed it very much. As for removing furniture, been there done that! :blushing: There's also furniture which is no longer used for it's original purpose, like my bookcase for example.... |
