I went to the New York Botanical Gardens. They has lots of orchids in the conservatory, but they will hold their annual orchid show in about a month.
This time around I went to see what kind of plants that are in the blueberry family (Ericaceae) they had lying around. They had lots!!!!! Check these out. Most of these were small plants, and all of them are grown like intermediate temperature orchids, all are epiphytes that grow in cloud forests of Tropical Amercia. Macleania ericae --- pic 1 Macleania coccoloboides -- pic 2, these are the sepals and the ovary, the petals had fallen off already Macleania rupestris --pic 3 Ceratostema silvicola -- pic 4 Ceratostema rauhii -- pic 5 I fell in love with this one, it pendant very long about 1 meter plant grown in a basket Cavendishia allenii -- pic 6, 7 Cavendishia micayensis -- 8, 9 -- a real beauty!! |

Disterigma rimbachii -- 1, 2 -- wow, I fell in love with this one too. Lots of little blueberries and it was a small shrub about 1 foot long half a foot tall clinging on to a rock growing with some liverworts. NOID - -- pic 3, i couldn't find the tag for this one. But this one was a giant, almost tree like in size. Macleania insignis -- pic 4 |
I had no idea blueberry plants could be so cool, thanks for posting.
