Black, firm, raised spots on leaves of unidentified orchid
 

...i've been told it's probably oncidium. no pseudobulbs or anything.

got it from my grandma's greenhouse, which has a bunch of orchids and probably some orchid pests, to say the least.

the black spots have not gotten soft and don't smell, but they seem to be staying quite put.

they are on about 1/3 of the leaves, though most spots aren't as large as the one in the photo.

is it black rot? or something else? and how do i treat it?

Beats the hell out of me! Sorry :)
If the spots are not getting bigger or changing it may be water-type/heat damage where droplets of water sat on the plant and the sun came along and burned it.
Fungal infections can get "lumpy" too.
Bacterial infections usually get sunken.
Finally, insect damage can sometimes be perplexing as they can disappear leaving only the evidence.
It certainly doesn't look viral to me at all.

You could continue to watch it or remove the leaf(leaves) affected as long as doing so does not compromise the overall plant. Hope that helps :)

:agree: Best to keep an eye on it, and as long as it isn't spreading you should be fine. I don't think there would be any harm in removing the most affected leaf though.

As to what that plant is, it doesn't look like Oncidium. Possibly a Den, or maybe even some sort of Catt. Do you have other pics of the plant?
