coelogyne trinervis
I have never grown any coelogynes. Would this be a good plant to start with considering the heat in southern Florida? And does anyone have any cultural advice?
|
Maybe Coelogyne pandurata or C. asperata.
or the primary hybrid C Brufordiense coelogyne primary hybrid - Google Search Coelogyne Burfordiense at Santa Barbara Orchid Estate |
Usually, Coelogynes with green blooms are able to grow well in subtropical or tropical lowlands.

In the book "Understanding Orchids", William Cullina says that Coelogyne was one of his early orchids and still one of his favorites. Some Coelogyne are warm growing and some cooler growing. It would help to buy from a grower in your area so you get one suited to your environment. He recommends Coelogyne cristata, fimbriata, flaccida, and lawrenceana. I don't know which ones are warm growing. They like to be moist all the time like phalaenopsis but need a little more light than phals. He also mentions that they are sensitive to poor quality water. Good luck.

You might ask in the Florida forum? We have a few growers. They might help with the types you should start with.
