Hello OB,
You know what it's like when you have one of those days? Well, mine seemed to start yesterday and I'm hoping that by posting, I might end the bad and start the new!!

To cut a long story short, yesterday, I managed to leave my laptop in my office (which has all my work on it!). Luckily, I discovered it missing when I got home and one of the secretaries in our main office rescued it and put it somewhere safe for me to collect as I pushed my way back to work during rush hour. Then once I got home and settled properly, I discovered two of my radiators had broken.

Hoping that would be the end of it, it seems to have carried over to this morning - I managed to knock two phals on the floor, spewing bark everywhere, within the space of 10mins... and then, to cap it all, my favourite teapot broke :_(

Now, in theory, I have a bright side - I should have some new chids arriving this afternoon. However, now I wondering if they might be too frightened to let me take them out of their box!

Thanks for letting me offload :blushing:

Ha ha, I must be scatty at the moment, I didn't even say what my new orchids were going to be!

Coelogyne cristata
Coelogyne cristata var. alba
Coelogyne flaccida
Coelogyne ochracea/ nitida (another one, I love them so much!!)
and...
Restrepia guttulata

I love Coels, so the burnham offer on cristata and flaccida was too good to miss! Hopefully, I can post some pics when they arrive :)

Sorry to hear about your troubles, and I hope you have the strength to move forward. I've been having quite a month myself, and the only thing that seems to make me happy these days are caring for my little "babies."

Best wishes for you!

Better luck this week Jenny! You sound remarkably cheeful for all that has happened to you all at once. Carol

Jennyfleur 01-20-2011 09:35 AM

Thanks Paul and Carol :) Luckily nothing else has happened this afternoon and I've tracked down somewhere I can get a replacement teapot online, so, in my own quirky little way, I'm happy about that!

Just unpacked the new arrivals which has also cheered me up (just as well they're all cool growers with the radiator problem!) - unfortunately, the light here's just starting to go, so might not be able to take good pics .

Hope you both have a good rest of week

Glad it's going better today. I hate it when I have days like that. Glad your new orchids are there to cheer you up as well

Better to get all of the bad stuff out of the way today. This clears a path for a great day tomorrow. Right?

And what better way to shake off yesterday's mess than by caring for a handful of new orchids.

Do send pics when the light improves and you have time. Also - what kind of teapot? Just curious.

:)

Hi Jrodpad, I'm definately hoping tomorrow is better :)
There's a picture of the restrepia in the Pleurothallis Alliance forum and a picture of the coelogyne cristata var alba in the Coelogyne Alliance (as I'm looking for advice on how to support a growth which has gone way over the limits of the pot). The Coel. ochracea/ nitida has a double spike forming and is a lot bigger than the other plant I have already, which is also in spike. When they all open, I'll be on cloud 9 as the scent is out of this world! (so, pics will come when they get a bit bigger for my poor little camera!)

The teapot which broke is a glass teapot by a company called Teaposy, who specialise in what they call blooming teas. I love it because it's clear and (as I use loose leaf tea) I can check the strength as I brew and watch all the leaves unfold. I tried making tea with another teapot and got it totally wrong because it had a different water capacity - the trouble is that I'm too set in my ways!
