Phalaenopsis Green Pod culture not showing any greening
1 Attachment(s)
Hello all,
I know the answer is somewhere out there. I am attaching a picture of a flask on which a 5 month Phalaenopsis green pod was sown on September 12th, 2010. The ovules seem to have germinated en masse but till now, none have shown any signs of turning green and producing leaves. Media is half strength Murashige Skoog Macroelements + full strength Microelements and Vitamins +1gm charcoal + 20gm Sucrose + 5gm agar . I have 7 flasks full of these apparently germinated ovules. Can I transfer these to another media to grow on? If so, any suggestions for media of choice? Thank you very much. |
I don't have an answer for you but sometime in the past on this forum there was a post with a similar problem and someone said that it was due to improper media or something in the media that promoted this kind of growth. I tried to search for it but didn't find the original post. Maybe someone else out there remembers it.

I don't see a lot going on in the picture. Just looks like wet seed. Are they green now? Once seed has germinated you can replate them. I like to wait untill the green dots begin to look "spikey" on top.
In a pinch, you can modify MS with banana and/or other sugar sources, but your best bet is to buy a medium designed for replate & maintenance. |
I can't really make out the exact texture of the medium but I believe the medium seems to have a creamy texture - am I right. Also, did the seeds turn abit brownish compared to the time you sowed them. If so, then you have a fermentation problem. The seeds will look ful but wil not germinate. This is something that happened in the first jars that I had sown, not sterile enough. Hoping I am wrong and you see some germination. It isn't an exact rule that they wil germinate in 1 month or 3 months - they could even germinate after 1 year, depending on the complexicity of the cross.
