Acronia (Pleurothallis) penelops

Photographed at Ecuagenera's main (cooler-growing) nursery in Gualaceo, Ecuador (near Cuenca).
The sheer number of Pleurothallis metagenus species is daunting. What's more, most photos show only the blooms. I've been frustrated in both directions - huge plants and dinky plants. I'm trying to shoot some perspective shots to go with the flower pics. They're not quite as aesthetically pleasing, but I think they do the job.

Wow, glad you posted that plant shot. I would never have guessed what the whole plant looked like from those flowers.

It's quite an unusual one with those long curved leaves with the flowers coming from them. Really cool.

The Acronias are fantastic. Many of them would make nice house plants even without flowers. They range from 2" tall to almost four feet. I photographed one of the latter today. It was very very heavy.

I agree, it would make a great house plant regardless of the flowers. It looks like it would be heavy at that size!

Flower close-ups are great and all. But I like to get the big picture, The whole package. Thanks

Thank you for the encouragement!

Interesting leaf, its so elongated. I also love the flower, with the recurved sepals. petals too?

I just found a whole bench of seedlings of this species in bloom. I'm really wishing I had a greenhouse!
