New at this! need help on best way to humidify greenhouse

I love orchids and I have decided to take a true stab at it. I have an 8x12 greenhouse and Santa brought me the exhaust fan, the heater and fan for it. The only thing he was unsure of was the humidifier, and to be honest, I don't know either!!! I live in Texas where we have some hot summers, so it will be a way to cool the greenhouse also.
What to do, humidifier or misting system?? HELP!

Either a misting system or you could look up swamp cooler on Google

Welcome to the Board!

I have a 8 X 16 GH.
My conditions are hot and dry (you probably have much higher humidity)

I have a standard box fan with misters mounted on the front of it.
The fan goes all day and the misters are controlled by a valve and sprinkler timer. (they come on and off throughout the day)

I use a small swamp cooler for hotter periods.

I keep it in the 50-60% range.

Thanks Maureen,
Do your misters spray at the top or bottom of your greenhouse?

I have the fan (with misters) sitting about 2 ft off the floor. It blows down the length of the GH.
I have a second box fan laying on it's back about 18" off the floor midway down the length of the GH. It blows upward and circulates the upper air back down to the floor.

I would definitely prefer to have the fan/misters spraying nearer the top of the GH but my water is hard and if it sprays for any length of time everything is coated with a white film.
Where it is now it sprays under the benches, cools the air and adds humidity.
The horizontal fan pulls the cooler, moister air up to the roof area.

Kind of a complicated system but I haven't come up with anything different yet, always experimenting.

Trial and error is a given until you find out what works for you and your conditions.

Have fun!

Maureen
