Neo Falcata Winter Rest Question
Hi! I am new to neos and I just got mine 2 weeks ago, I was wondering how long the winters rest needs to be? The place I got it from said it had not had a temp below 55f and needed a winter rest still. My question is how long does it need to be and can I put it out in the garage (40-45f at night) for the night time and bring it back into 68-70f during the day? Will this be sufficient for a winter rest and how long do I need to keep doing this?
Thanks in advance for any info you can give me to make this baby happy. PS- I also have a Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom Rose falcata, does this need a winter rest as well ? :o) |
Good questions and ones I am also interested in knowing. I haven't gotten the ascofinetia yet, but I want it.

It sure is cute! :D

Katie, here is a site with free culture sheets. Just scroll down till you get to Neofinetia. I believe this should answer most of your questions.

Regarding Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom culture, I grow my plant in a net basket without any medium and in a very bright spot. Winter night temperature goes down to 56 degrees, watering once or twice per week. Ascofinetias become beautiful specimen plants if the keikis are not removed. |
Thanks Judi! and Thank you very much Rena :D If anyone else has any advice I would love to hear it

I guess I was interested to see peoples personal experience regarding this issue. How does everyone give their Neos a winters rest ? :D

I grow mine on a windowsill in a west-facing window. All are grown the traditional Japanese method with a sphagnum moss "ball" with a cavity in the center. They get less water and lower temperatures, down to 10 Celsius at night (50 degree Fahrenheit). Also less light, but I do think they would grow better with more light.
