Laelia lobata (type color forma)
3 Attachment(s)
L lobata is considered a "very endangered species" in nature (CITES appendix I), 'cause it is found only in a restricted habitat area (Pão de Açúcar and Pedra da Gávea hills, in Rio de Janeiro city; maybe in Niterói city, near Rio). Fortunately it is largely reproduced by seed and mericlone.

I like that you posted a picture of the whole plant. Any special cultural needs?

VERY nice, Frederico!
I acquired the cultivar 'Marbri' (originally from Equilab?) last year. It is struggling a bit to be established. I look forward to the plant flowering like yours! |
Hi friends!
I don’t heard about this cultivar - “Marbri”. Unfortunately, L lobata is seldom used in selective breeding (unlike its "sister" L purpurata!). L lobata is easy to grow as a purpurata, but needs more light – much more light! If adapted slowly, lobata can stand under direct sun without problems. Some Brazilian friends say they need the use of iodine (a few drops per liter of water, every time you fertilize) because it is a plant that grows very near the sea. I do not use, but they can only prosper if they are almost under direct sunlight |
