Woo hoo! New bromeliads!

I've been itching for some dart frogs for a long time already.

This time, I just couldn't hold out any more, so I'm going ahead and starting the project!

I'm still searching for a tank that suits my needs.

But in the meantime, I got a couple new bromeliads to kick start things!

I was near Rainforest Flora while making a delivery, so I decided to check it out.

I ended up getting a couple cool species for the would be dart frog tank.

1. Aechmea gamosepala
2. Neoregelia punctatissima var. rubra

I'll see if I can post photos tomorrow or in a couple days when I'm free.

Photos of the new bromides! :)

The first two are of Aechmea gamosepala. The flowers are spent on the spike, but the colorful pink flower bracts are still around. This one is just under 2 ft tall.

The second two are of Neoregelia punctatissima var. rubra, a true miniature Neoregelia!

Wish I had more room to grow Bromels - used to in Houston, but only have a couple of Tillandsias now. These are beautiful.

Thank you!

I'm sure you'd be able to fit the mini Neoregelia. That's as large as it gets. It's in a 3" pot.

There are tons of mini Neoregelias. Cryptanthus don't get very large either.

The trouble is, Philip, that every time I add a bromel, I have to get rid of an orchid - just have limited space.

Wow, I really like the tubular flowers of the Aechmea gamosepala. Very nice.

Thanks, Tindo. :)

The blooms are dark lavendar and tubular. The flower bracts are pink and tubular.

Fell in love with it as soon as I saw it.

Wow I love the miniature one. I would love to add it to my crested gecko vivarium. Nice find.
Is that another plant growing off to the side or is that how brooms normally spread?

Beautiful ones! I have two large ones that look like your purple mottled leaved ones.

I have a question for you though, how do you get yours to bloom? My two have spiked for several years but still have yet to pop those beautiful flowers out of the hard shell like spike.
