Bulb crassipes

Initially, I thought this guy was growing a new pseudo bulb because just a small nubbin was showing from the base. Today while watering, I noticed it is, in fact, a flower spike. While I was excited with a new pseudo bulb because for me it means maybe I'm doing something right, I am even more excited at the prospects of a flower!!!! It looks like maybe in a couple of weeks it may mature.... keep posted all you Bulbo fans!

Ooo, well done! Looking forward to some more pictures :) To be honest, I'm just getting into Bulbos after seeing so many wonderful pics on here. Can you tell me a bit more about your growing conditions for this one?

I grow all my Bulbo in bark/CHC, except those that are mounted. I try to keep them warm and moist not soaking wet and I do give them more light than others who grow Bulbos.

Wow, nice collection! I grow all mine in the house (with a range of warm to cool growers) but I haven't tried a bulbo yet. One of the places I buy from has got some Bulbophyllum rothschildianum now. So, I'm thinking if they're still there in spring, I might try one. I don't want to start buying through the post now as it's cold, so keep an eye out on the forum in a few months as I'll probably being posting a 'Bulbophyllum advice' thread!

If I were you and the price was reasonable, I'd be at that store purchasing one as we write! By spring they may have been purchased by all those who know what they are!

Hmm, really? The price is within my range, even at flowering size .. I have to buy by post as they're the other side of the country ... but .. I'm soo tempted now, especially as orchidspecies describes it as small growing, so it'll fit in the house! (mind you, the google results seem to conflict about the smell!)

Very nice and can't wait to see it in full bloom.

Jenny, wouldn't concern myself with the smell. While some definitely SMELL, most are only noticeable if you stick your nose into the flower. Now I say this with some reservation since I have never had one in my limited collection that was that offensive...

I have a Elizabeth Ann it is a great starter Blub. Now it is the only Bulbophyllum I own. But it is a great compact grower. And as long as you have it next to a window that get some sun. You are golden. It like to stay wet. So i water it and let it drip. I have a Bird of Paradise plant under it. So it doesn't get on my floor.

I will say I love your collection Doc. I wish i had a green house or a Orchidarium. (DREAM)

I have one that hasn't bloomed yet, and I'm so excited waiting for yours to bloom. The pictures I have seen of the blooms are fab. Get your camera ready. Hurry Hurry!~
