Why did it not flower?
 

I had goten a nice healthy plant a few months ago. But some of its buds never flowered and not they have dried up. Any ideas?

What kind of environment has it been in? When you received the plant, was it already in bloom? What do the leaves and roots look like? :photo:

Sometimes a plant just has a little "temper tantrum" when it gets moved from it's favorite environments. :scratchhead:

Carolyn is right, the phal is probably under some type of stress and did not have the energy to open the last of its flowers. I've had some phals that aborted their buds in favor of staying alive. You might try checking the roots to make sure they are in good condition.

First of all, you have a beautiful family.

I agree with the others. You may have some growing condition that is not adequate. Go back to basics. Temp (also proper shift), light, humidity, moisture, proper fertilizer, air movement. It is unhappy about something. If all these are at least tolerable, then go to pest/disease and lastly, someone doing something to it otherwise. Watering it for you when you're not looking, etc..
What kind of plants are next to it and what treatment do they get?
The other Phal looks good there. Can you get pics of the plant?

the condition you are describing is called "bud blast." as several others have said before, it's a reaction to just about anything that stresses the plant. it can be something simple or brief though--it doesn't have to be a prolonged injury. for instance, if you buy an in-spike plant off the internet, and have it shipped cross country, that can be enough to shock several of the buds into blasting, or if a plant sits at home depot for more than a few days, the chance of bud blast is quite high. some plants are also more resilient than others, which can be maddening when you happen upon a fragile one.

anyway, like others have said, check that you're giving this plant the right conditions, see if it needs to be repotted, and go from there. next year it will probably be fine.

Definitely check the root system! I have bought NOID phals not knowing they had rotten roots. Even though, I repotted them in bloom, they held their flowers that were open and the spike began to regrow after I began fertilizing it. Undeveloped buds that were forming at the time, dried up and fell off but that was the most damage.
I also found good lighting for it - west window with a sheer curtain in front .. when I pull it back for more sun for my catts, my phals are behind them.
Phals are resilent and bounce back nicely!
