New Miltonia bargain - ID please?
3 Attachment(s)
I thought you'd like to see this new miltonia that I found in the reduced pile at a local garden centre for £2-50 (That's about $3-75) - it had been reduced twice and had two finished flower spikes which I have removed. There was also a concealed spike of nearly open buds, so I bought it. It has now opened and the buds are a bit unsure about which way is up but it is getting there! It is also scented. Does anyone have a clue what it is?
Sorry about poor quality of third photo - shaky hands - but I want ed to show the inside. They are about two inches big at the moment, or will be when they flatten out. |
Nice find!! Don't think you can ID it though, Miltonias are just like everything else, there's a million hybrids out there. Have you repotted it yet? If not, I would recommend that you do because EU growers have a nasty habit of potting milts/onc intergenerics in bark, while leaving a core of hard packed sphag at the base of the roots. Root rot guaranteed, if you're not careful.

Pretty one, can't help with an ID though and as Camille has said there are lots of hybrids out there.
I also agree about the repotting, all the Milts and Oncs I have bought have had that core of rotten sphag in the middle. |
Thanks for the info, I haven't looked into the pot yet, I thought I'd wait until the flowers fade, I don't usually over water things, quite the reverse! Ididn't think there would be a quick ident, but there's never any harm in asking, is there?
