Hi everyone,
What do you think these areas on the leaves of one of my catts are? I noticed them this morn. as the light was shining on them more than usual. By the way, they don't feel mushy. I would appreciate your opinions and advice.
Vicki

Isolate the plant from the rest of your collection! It looks virused. Get some agdia test strips and test asap.

Could you elaborate elitebettas?

Could be bacterial as well. Personnaly I don't think it looks like old thrips damage, you don't see the characteristic silvery patches. The other thing is that other grozths would be affected and not just that one.

Thank you for your advice, but I certainly hope you're wrong. I am so paranoid of viruses, which I know every orchid grower is.
Thanks again,
Vicki

Thanks for your reply, Camille. I'm not sure if I have anything on hand for a bacterial prob., but I'm gonna go check.
Thanks again,
Vicki

Virus can't be ruled out, but the trouble with them is it's so hard to tell. Other diseases can cause marks that look extremely suspicious, and then you can also have clean plants test plants test positive. That's what I hate the most about viruses; the uncertainty

Camille, I've been thinking....and I believe I'll send a sample to Critter Creek - not necessarily because I'm concerned about this one plant (it's just another catt, although no one likes to lose an orchid), but so I'll know whether there is/is not a chance that the rest of my collection could have been infected. In the meantime, would you suggest I treat it for a bacterial prob. in case that's the culprit? I looked, but I don't have anything to treat it with, but I'll buy something if you suggest.

I'd like to know more about viruses, but certainly not first hand! I've understood before the same as you mentioned about suspicious and clean plants. Scary, isn't it?!
I'll appreciate any more advice...
Vicki
