A couple of new plants
We just got back from the Merritt Huntington Symposium in Virginia and we learned a lot (actually started to suffer a little information overload by Saturday afternoon) and scored some great plants.
Great speakers and great vendors. Who could ask for anything more! We (Yes, I did say we) picked up the best looking Suruga Fukurin I've ever seen from Jason-san and two fabulous Komachi musume and Manjyushage plants from Glenn-san. :biggrin: I can't wait to see them flower next year! :cloud9: Glenn also had some wonderful little Dendro. moniliformes and 'Kintsuru' just happened to jump into our goody bag too. All-in-all, a very sucessful weekend. :cloud9: Cheers. Jim |
Glad to hear it was a good meeting.
Was sad my schedule did not allow me to go :( Always love the interesting things also that come up at the auction too! |
sounds like you had an awesome time. im jealous lol. did glenn say how easy the dendrobium m's were to bloom and if they were scented? ive been looking at them on his website and debating.

Richard;
Glenn said the care is pretty much the same as Neos and flowers range from white through "apple blossom" shades of pink. He didn't mention scent and I didn't think to ask. It's our first one. Marlene liked the variegation and I figured $20, no tax, no shipping, I'll have a go. Cheers. Jim |
Congrats on the new plants, Jim. Was it a Manjyushage seedling you got? Or was it a true division?
I hope you're able to rig up some setup to give those 2 the cool dry rest to improve chances of blooming next year. You had mentioned you were having some trouble getting it cold enough, being in your new house. I'll be closing on a new home end of this month, so now I get to deal with that issue also :( |
Tracy;
The Manjyushage is a seedling, so I'm taking a chance. I haven't reached the $1,200 plant level yet. :biggrin: Glenn says it may or may not be a 3-spur and Jason's website says only divisions can be 3-spur. Glenn also said Manjyushage may not produce 3-spurs reliably year after year, so we'll see... I'm thinking about setting up some shelves in my unheated garage or cracking a window in the guest room for over wintering. Both plants are blooming size so I should find out within a year. Cheers.
