I know there are several people out there that use and swear by Phyton-27 for specific situations like crown rot and other fungal/bacterial infestations. The product contains Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate...21.36% and the the rest is inert stuff. CuSO4 exits in several forms from an anhydrous form to the most common salt form pentahydrate CuSO4 . 5 H2O. So my question to all you users and non-users is this: What is the difference between this product, Phyton, and Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate (Enforcer 32oz 99% CuSO4) available for considerably less at Lowe's or other big box/garden centers? I'm not a chemical engineer but am I missing something here...???? :hmm:scratchhead:

The difference, as far as I can tell, is the concentration. The "inert ingredients" are likely just water, so it would be easy enough to mix up a 20 weight % solution of the Enforcer product.

Be aware that copper sulfate is also a herbicide, so use it lightly, and not on thin-leaved plants like coelogynes and the like.

Thanks Ray... I am soooo glad you saw this thread because I was hoping you'd be one of the people responding. I do respect your comments. So you said "20 weight%". So on a gallon basis, you'd mix 20% of the weight of a gallon of water??? Sorry but I left my high school chemistry somewhere just after 1962... I think in a very dark closet! LOL

OK... so follow me on this

Specific gravity of water is approx 1. Therefore, 1 quart of water weights 32 oz Since Phyton is a 26% solution, and the Enforcer is 99%, the simple math would be about 1/4 of the 32 oz or 8 oz of Enforcer to 32 oz of water to equal approx the same concentration of Phyton 27.... yes????

A quart of water may weight 2 pounds, but the specific gravity of the Phyton-27 will be higher.

The simplest thing is to just use weight, but the addition should end up be the correct percentage of the total. For example, when I make up a 25% solution of fertilizer to make a liquid concentrate, I add 1 pound fertilizer to 3 pounds of RO water.

Your first post said 21%, now 26. Which is it? I would stick with 20% (1 part by weight added to 4 parts water by weight) or 25% (1 to 3, like my fertilizer example) for simplicity - which ever is closest to Phyton-27.
