A Little Brag: CCE/AOS Awarded

I don't have a photo of the full plant yet, but the Coelogyne ovalis that my husband has been caring for at the Memphis Botanic Gardens (he is now in charge of the orchids) was pulled for AOS judging today in Chattanooga, TN.

It received a CCE/AOS with 92 points! It also received "Best of Show"

I am so proud of him! He has really turned their orchid collection around into something really special.

Here is a link to a bloom photo from the actual plant.

:1stplace: As soon as I get a decent picture of the full plant, I will post it. It weighs about 100 lbs and is HUGE.

That is a beautiful flower!

I can't wait to see the full plant. I just can't imagine a 100lb orchid.

Well I don't have the award photo yet but here are the details from the award certificate. I feel sorry for the team who had to count the blooms. :)

146 flowers and 172 buds on 160 inflorescences.
98cm diameter and 61cm tall with spotless foliage.

The gardens decided to name the plant after one of our local philanthropists, Helen Hardin. She and her family have been involved with the zoo and the botanic gardens for many years.

She is passed on now so the name will be Coelogyne ovalis 'Memoria Helen Hardin' CCE/AOS.
