This is the first phrag that I have bloomed, others have been purchased in bloom. Very pleased with it, quite a large flower with bud behind as you can see. May have to change my focus to include more phrags???

Really nice. I love these red Phrags.

Very nice! Especially with that second bud right behind it, Well done!
That's a very different way of getting the spike to grow straight up.

Nenella, that was a very quick fix this morning. I should actually take more time and make it look a little more presentable! Thanks for your nice comments.

Can you measure the natural spread (ns), the distance left to right from petal tip to petal tip ? I have a few besseae crosses and am curious to how the flowers compare in size.
Thanks

Charlie

A ns of 4" is a good size from the few besseae hybrids I have seen.

The attached photo shows 2 I have in bloom now:

[left] Phrag Don Wimber ((besseae x longifolium) x besseae). The bud got sunburned so the dorsal sepal did not form. The flower has a ns of 4-1/4". Hopefully I can get the next bud to form correctly.

[right] The 2nd flower of my Phrag Robin Redbreast (besseae x (besseae x czerwiakowianum) is also 4". I like the twist in the petals.

Charlie
