My brother-in-law is in Malaisia at the momment and at the weekend I spoke to him over my sisters video-call on her computer. The software let him show pictures he had on his computer and he showed some snaps he had taken of a shop he walked past where every plant was the equivalent of 50p. They were all massive Vandas and Renantheras and were really gorgeous. |
50p! :faint:
If they were that cheep here, my house would be chocker with them! And then my hubby would probably have a nervous break down with all the greenery... Probably for the best that they are not that cheap in this country, well for me anyway  |
Beautiful blooms on that one, David. How tall is the plant? Do you grow it warm throughout the year, or can it be acclimated to intermediate temperatures during the winter? Congratulations on your flowers. They're stunning.

David,
great flowering and plant. However I believe that this is likely not R storei. With a picture of the plant and a close-up of the flowers I should be able to tell you a bit more. The shape of the lower petal indicates that this is probably a hybrid of Renanthera philippinensis, maybe R. Scarlet Yuka = Renanthera imschootiana x Renanthera philippinensis A real storei actually looks like this. The plant will also be very large, will have dark green leaves which are larger than on other Renanthera's Sorry to dissapoint: still a nice plant. Note that almost all plants sold as R storei in Europe are in fact mislabelled. I only ever saw one real storei at a show 2 years ago: the plant was nearly 3m's tall! Regards Lars |
If you google image for R storei, you will find quite a few pictures that look like your plant: part of this is my fault. I only just started growing Renanthera then. When my plant flowered for the first time I got very excited and uploaded pictures to Wikipedia: it took a month for the experts to decide the picture was wrong. In that time the pictures got copied all over the web.
In any case: there is a lesson to be learned here Lars |
