Hello alana. A few years ago I did try a Ascda Princess Mikasa in semi-hydroponics. It died after about a year. The only vandaceous that I have had good results with are Sarcochilus and Neostylis. Good luck.

I grow a vanda potted in large bark. This is meant to help in dry climates.

I've only had it since March though, so do not know how long it will work for. I've heard of others here on OB who grow them in bark and they have been doing it for longer.

The bark is very chunky and I just spray the surface with water and let it dribbled down inside. Only about once every one or two months do I use more water.

While I've not had it for long it IS growing new leaves, new roots and even a flower spike just now, so I think it's doing OK.

Alana,

As an experiment, I planted a small (5 leaves) Vascostylis x Ascocenda in Semi-hydroponically almost a year ago.

It is doing very well and has doubled it's leaves and root mass.

I'm not sure I would try it with a larger, more established plant though.

How big is yours?

Have you looked at the information on growing vandas in glass vases? That works for me also, since it is dry here, also.

Thank you Maureen.

My Ascocenda and Vanda are big. I will forget SH for them. I will try with clay balls. If I get littler vandas, I will try Semi-hidroponic like you!

Thanks a lot!
