bulbophyllum sessile
 

I have 3 mini bulbos in a terrarium that I set up about 2 months ago. A week or so ago, I popped open the terrarium for daily misting, and I found that my bulbophyllum sessile had flowered! They must be doing okay I guess. I've attached a few pics of the tiny tiny flowers.

They only lasted a week or so, is that normal for this type of bulbo? I've done some poking around on-line, but I can't seem to find anything that speaks to the duration of the blooms.

How neat! Your plant seems really happy. Not sure how long your bulb supposed to bloom but seems like blooms of bulbos' dont last as long as blooms of some other genera.

Really pretty little ones, even if they are short lived.

Thanks guys - I still haven't been able to find good intel on how long the blooming cycle is supposed to last so I'm going to reach out to the seller. I think she actually grows these (rather than acting as a reseller) so she likely has first hand experience. I'll post a follow-up with the answer.

On a side note, while digging for blooming cycle duration, I learned that bulbophyllum sessile is a species orchid from Singapore where it is listed as "nationally critically endangered". Can that be right? I did have a heck of a time finding a seller on-line, but I never thought that it could be because these orchids were endangered.

I don't know how I would feel if I were to loose an orchid that is disappearing from the natural world. I definitely don't need that extra pressure!

Is there any way to verify the commonality of this one?
