Dendrobium flower spike has a root

Does this mean my Dendrobium has produced a keiki? I just noticed a flower spike which still has yet to bloom has about a 2 inch long root growing from it.

I've never had a Dendrobium produce a keiki, so I'm assuming I treat it the same as a phal keiki.

Hi Paul, I have a lot of dens and for them to produce spikes with roots is quite common. In my experience it's not possible to use them as a keiki. I've taken them off before and potted them up but I've had 100% failure at getting them to grow.

Also I've had a den in spike where a keiki has grown at exactly the same rate and spiked it's self! That keiki is now growing in it's own little pot.

Ah, I see now. Thank you Marion! As I have never seen one, I wasn't sure what I was really looking at. Great info though.
