Pollinating dendrochillum

Hey,

I have a dendrochilum in bloom right now and i was thinking about pollinating it, i will be growing under lights soon so it will be intresting to mess with seedlings over the winter months.

The blooms are really small and plenty, so how many to pollinate and does anyone have any tips / pointers / tutorials i should look for?

Jeff

Get a hand lens, or magnafying glass. You can remove one flower for a close examination to familiarize yourself with its parts. Practice pulling off the anther cap as well. Then you'll know what you're dealing with.

I'd pollinate 3 or 4 just to be sure to get some seed. I like to choose fresh but fully open flowers. If you aren't sure about the plant's preference, pollinate a few at different stages of maturity.
