Aranthera?
1 Attachment(s)
Hello,
During my visit last July in Singapore I bought a flask of (sterile propagated) Aranthera plantlets. After 2 weeks I broke the bottle and planted the plantlets on bark. The plantlets seem to do fine, but I am really having a hard time finding any information related to this orchid species in the handbooks or internet. Any information would thus be very welcome! Thanks in advance, Merijn |
Not a species.
It's an intergeneric Vandaeceous hybrid consisting of the genera Arachnis and Renanthera. Which means you will have to know what the grex and cultivar names are next. |
OK, thanks for this valuable information.
Anyhing known about cultivation methods? I mean growing from a plantlet to adulthood? Thanks in advance, Merijn |
Both genera contain plants that are intermediate to warm growing.
The light is bright indirect as per Vandas for the adults. For the seedlings, moderate light as for Oncidiums should be good enough until they get larger. The humidity can be moderate to high. The seedlings need to be adapted to lower humidity because the leaves have adapted to life in a bottle, where humidity is near 100%, not for the big blue world. |
It took me some searching, but the hybrid is a:
Aranthera Teacher Juling = Aranthera James Storie (Arachnis hookeriana x Renanthera storiei) x Renanthera philippinensis Let's hope the seedlings will survive! Best, Merijn |
That will eventually (slowly) grow into a giant.
Good luck. :) |
