My Flickr rant
Just a minor thing, really, but it bugs me whenever I go to that website to look at pics.
It doesn't take more than a scroll of a mouse to see some bizarre comments with flashy, loud logos or pics. Many people comment on the content of the pic, but a bunch of them claim to be mods of special groups that invite the image-taker because their picture is so outlandishly beautiful: "Hi, I'm a mod for (insert random group here), and we'd love to have your pic added to our group!" I know it's not something that's overly annoying, but those sorts of comments just drive me up the wall. If any of you do this, I apologize for sounding rude, but wouldn't it be more practical just to say how neat the picture is? |
I dislike Flickr, the navigation makes me cringe.
I wish people used Picasa web more... way more intuitive and straightforward |
I agree about those sorts of comments. I don't use Flickr myself (except to view pics posted here) but I know that Ron used to use it a lot and now gets really anoyed with the navigation.

I like flikr, so far I haven't had any problems and those minor flaws, they just make you stronger LOL.

I use Flickr and like it better than Picasa, which I used in the past. I agree that thos e"comments" are annoying, but you can deactivate them, if you do not want them. or just delete them... normally, you get them too, when you post your pictures to the correponding "groups" that requeste for each picture you post, you MUST stamp those comments in at leats 3 or 5 other pictures). I just avoid those groups, and that's it... :)
They have recently changed the navigation, and I must admit at the beginning (used to the old one) I had some troubbles. Especially, because they had an overlapping period where both options were available. Now, that I know it better, I really like it A LOT! it's like alway, change anything, and you will find a lot of people complaining and saying it is bad. After a while, they get used to it, and the complains are over. You implement a new change, and they will say again, that the previous version was THE BEST ever.. until they get used to the new one again :) |
I looked at flickr once (I use Picasa) and the ONLY thing which made me stay with Picasa is because I find using the Picasa photo management tool for uploading your pictures by FAR the easiest upload method I've ever used on any website. I've tried various plugins for Windows Photo Gallery for various sites and they are still clumsy. (I actually use Windows Photo Gallery for most photo management, then switch to the picasa one just for upload).
I noticed a lot of gripes coming through from various people recently from flickr, but to be honest from my viewing pics only use of it I've not had a problem. I actually like it's options for various different sizes of each pic, and for the photo streams and ability to group one pic in multiple 'albums'. I know exactly what you mean Ramón about changes bring complaints. I write software for a living and believe me I know how the tiniest change can make a difference. Years ago now we added a new interface style to some of our screens and got loads of complaints... but we stuck with it and within a month the same customers were ringing asking why it hadn't been added to this other screen and could we please update ALL the screens ASAP :coverlaugh: |
