Den antennatum has seed pods

:hello This is a big, old plant. It is pretty much a continuous bloomer. Recently it was visited by something that resulted in a lot of pods. This was the only Den in bloom at the time. There were a couple of white phals in bloom near by, too. So I assume it is x self. Any of you flaskers want a pod? Here are a couple pics of the plant and flowers.

Can anyone tell me how to save these pods? I have several if any of you flaskers wants them. Free to a good home.

What a beautiful orchid. How old is you plant? I never seen one in pods before. Thanks for sharing.

:blushing: Thanks Sonya and Carol! I am not sure how old it is. I remember having it around for at least 7-8 years. It blooms almost continuously. Very easy species to grow after it gets established, but very hard to get started! Very finicky roots! ;)

To save them, keep a close eye on their progress. When they begin to yellow a bit and/or start to look like they're drying out, make sure you pay extra close attention. You'll want to clip them off just as they are beginning to split.

Once removed from the plant, it is critical that they are stored in a breathable material - never plastic or anything airtight. A coffee filter is perfect. Label the filter and place a few capsules inside. Fold the top and secure it with a staple or paper clip. Just let it sit on a bookshelf indoors for a couple of weeks or so, that should get it nice and dry. You can just pick out the empty capsule, giving it a gentle tap to drop most of the "good" seed into the filter.

It's usually the moisture from the capsule tissue that spoils the seed. If dried promptly, it should store well for months.

That's an amazing plant Susie! It looks fantastic. :bowing If you don't mind sending seed to france (can pay you the shiiping costs) I will gladly take some seeds once they're ready. I fell in love with this species while in the USA, but it doesn't seem easy to find here.

Sure thing Camille! They are still green so I will let you know when it is getting close to being ripe.
