:hello :waving

My name is Michell and I am a new orchid collector, although I have loved orchids and tried my hand at caring for them in the past, my love and desire to collect has only been with my recent I purchases. I have two beautiful orchid plants, one a Phalaenopsis and the other I am not sure what type it is. I have taken a picture of it and shown it on another site but I've had no hits yet. I am doubting that I will now since it has been quite a while since I posted it. Perhaps some of you could help me...

I am looking forward to learning all I can about my new pretties! God bless!

This is something in the Oncidium Alliance with a lot of Odontoglossum in it.

Thank you so much Ron! It is such a relief and something of an excitement knowing what kind she is; I can now learn how to better care for this beauty!

Thanks again.:bowing

You're welcome, and welcome to OB. Thanks, too, for visiting my blogs. Enjoyed yours.

Aw, thanks Ron, you're so kind! :) I really enjoyed visiting your blogs. I am an amature photographer and adore looking at other's works. You take beautiful photographs. Thanks for sharing.

That's a beautiful plant. I agree it's in the Oncidium Alliance but I couldn't tell you much more than that. With the large psuedobulbs it will do best if you let it dry out between waterings.

Thank you Tucker85. I appreciate your imput as well. A second opinion is just confirmation. I have been checking out different sites looking for my chid, but am finding there are so many that I may not find her. But, at least I know now what "family" she belongs and can care for her appropriately.

Thanks again.
Michell

Thank you for the greeting CTB! I am finding this to be addicting, indeed! I have quickly fallen in love with my chids and it was frustrating not knowing what the other one was. As a result of not knowing and not being able to properly care for her, she lost all her flowers quickly after I purchased them, and both stems. My Phalaenopsis is still blooming, but many of her flowers have dropped also. But, I am beginning to get the hang of it! Again, thanks for the greeting and comments.

Have a great evening.
Michell

The loss of flowers is often due to a sudden change in environment and not to poor growing on your part. Your plant looks very healthy. As to a name that is a near impossibility because of the thousands of hybrids and the uncertainty, even if you find something that looks like it, that they are actually the same. There's a huge variation within crosses and thousands of crosses. The only way to be sure of the name is to get it from the grower and with box store orchids that is almost impossible.
