Fogging or misting
I've been thinking on what equipment to use in the tank I intend to use. I've searched Internet and found different solutions for this. There are systems used more in terrariums that are more like rain systems, then there are others more like cold steaming systems.
I found one steamer called "penguin" that is aimed for humidize a room. But some use it in their terrarium and I thought it might be usable in my case. It produces a mist that can be controlled in means of how much mist it creates. It is ocillating the water to a cold mist. I tried to find a picture of it in opration but I didn't for now. I'll try to do that later. Question is, would a mist be enough for the orchids or would there be a need for more water in there? Maybe its a bit unclear what I mean, then jump back at me and I'll try to clear it out. I must run for now, gonna visit a member of the Orchids Society thats I am amemeber of and look at his 600 orchids :-) |
Hejsan Henke!
Hur står det till? :) I use one of those ultrasound foggers in my tank. I run it so that my rel.humidity stays above 85% all day. it really extends the time it takes for the plant to dry but I don't think that alone even at 100%would be enough. please don't forget to get good fans for air circulation. I'm only saying this because after I updated my system with the fogger the higher humidity levels made me purchase an additional one, my third.. |
Re
Hello,
I try to make this clear. First plants need only 4 things 1) light (rather easy to provide, just costy, I prefer HQI) 2) Nutrients, because orchids are slow growing, only half of the normal amount is needed. 3) Water, one of the trickier ones, usually 90% of the species prefer it so, that they have 1-2 dry days between watering. 4) Good humid circulating air, absolutely the trickiest ones, this is what makes a good viv. Also, the pinquin is perfect for making your air humid. It is completely another thing to water your plants. Only tillandsias can take all the water they need from air, orchids can take only some. But this is a vital part of a viv. It allows you to adjust humidity rather easily. Another really important part in air is the circulation, the more the better, but remember to CIRCULATE, not new air in and old out, it kills your plants, because even 3 pinquins are not enough to completely huminate the new dry air. |
Thanx for the advice. I'll try to keep thoose in mind seting things up.
