Your Phal is a species. A complex phal refers to a complex hybrid mixing a lot of different species together.

Many of the complex phal hybrids can reflower from an existing spike, but that trait may only come from some of the parent species and not all of them. A species only has the traits of it's self and so may not do the same things that a complex hybrid does.

In this case Ted has said that this one can. I'm not sure if all Phal species can or not, but Ted obviously has experience that this one does.
