Pleurothallid - Volcán Pichincha, Ecuador

This was everywhere along the path. I'm guessing it's a Stelis, but I'm not very good at these...
High elevation cloud forest, 2005. |
If they aren't something from the super genus Pleurothallis, I'm thinking it's a Platystele sp.

Cool find!

Wow, well spotted. Not sure I would have realised they were orchids.

This particular species was pretty easy to find - It was everywhere along some parts of the path. We saw similar things (yellow flowers, lots of them) growing in numerous different habitats both in Ecuador and in Venezuela on another trip. Somehow or other, this has been a successful evolutionary strategy - there are a bunch of Pleurothallis, Stelis, etc... that all look superficially very similar.
