New To Dendrobiums

Hello All,

I recently obtained my first Dendrobium, A D. spectabile, which appears to be in good condition with the longest cane about 20in. It needs to be repotted because it falls over. I may just put it in a small 4in. terracotta orchid pot with the (scant) mix that came with it.

Is this species a "hardcand" Dendrobium?

I read Tony Watkinson's article on growing hardcanes--ie. lots of sun, but not too much, occasional water, but not to much, maybe a little fertilizer. Does that sound about right? Thanks for any information.

Wilson

Would love to add this to my collection, size is my limitations, an awesome bloom, it likes to stay warm all year around and as many dends love a rest period in the winter these guys need none. But if your winters are cooler than the 60 degrees, less water is advised with fewer intervals. Here is AOS's cultural sheet, hope it helps..
