Timing transfer for Mini Catts
3 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone,
I'm very excited as I just received two mini catts (lc mini purple 'Blau' x (C intermedia x L. Perrrinii) 'Blau' and S1 Psyche x Ctna Why Not. Both have new pseudobulb growth and I'm wondering if when the growth matures if that is when they will grow new roots as I'm trying to time their transfer into S/H (one of the plants is bifolate and the other is unifolate). Also, the grower suggested repotting the Mini purple blau into the same pot with fresh media. I'm wonder if it would be a better idea to put it into s/h right now (maybe together with the other plant as I tend to kill anything potted in bark T_T) with bottom heat and a superthrive soak/drench too? I think that I'm jumping the gun though... I'd love to hear your thoughts :). Thank you! Ryan |
they look like roots shod start emerging soon

Hi John, thank you! I unpotted both of them and found that one had no roots but new roots aren't too far off and the other had good roots and was a bit further behind on starting new roots.
My only other question is which is more important: bottom heat or high humidity for plants to adapt to s/h? I can either put the plants inside an empty aquarium with a bit of standing water and a gap on the top to allow some air flow or put the plants on a seedling heat mat =/..... Not both sadly. Also, I was sure to soak the hydroton and the plants separately in a superthrive solution too. Thanks for the help! R |
bottom heat will be the best because you need good air circulation....
And I mist the top of my hydrotron also to help out ...make sure you have soaked your hydrotron overnight at the least and washed and rinsed it several times The one with no roots I would put into s/h right away and if I had it soak in a kln solution for a while or use kln in my fertilizer mix ....what kind ot temperatures is the area you grow in? Gentle bottom heat is very good but may not be needed if its very warm ... Humidity is important for sure but a little misting of the top of the medium will help that as will the s/h method itself...Humidity with little air circulation is not good. |
